KenGen plans to acquire more EVs and build power stations
Kenya Electricity Generation Company (KenGen) intends to buy additional electric vehicles (EVs) as it strives to convert from gasoline-powered vehicles to EVs.
KenGen said it will launch an e-mobility campaign this year, propelling it to the forefront of EV evolution.
The transformation aims to tackle climate change while also addressing the country's transportation difficulties.
The company presented its first four-electric vehicles in November of last year as it aims to switch from gasoline-powered automobiles to EVs. They will largely be utilised for data collecting and policy formulation as the corporation plans to construct over 30 EV charging stations around the country in 2023.
The endeavour is part of the NSE-listed company's environmental and economic sustainability agenda, which aims to cut global GreenHouse Gas (GHG) emissions by instilling confidence in the country's EV adoption.
"I am pleased to inform that we intend to instal around 30 EV charging stations in key cities across the country over the coming year," Serem stated.
The Company began its diversification strategy in 2012.
KenGen already has two EV charging stations in Nairobi and Naivasha and wants to establish three more in Murang'a, Embu, and Kisumu Counties within the company's power facilities by the end of 2023.
