SOUTH AFRICA: Toyota adds taxi CKD assembly plant at Prospecton

Toyota South Africa has opened a taxi CKD  assembly plant at its main manufacturing site in Prospecton, Durban.

The company has spent ZAR476m (US$39m) on the plant which will assemble the Ses'fikile minibus taxi.

The company started assembly of these in 2012 from semi knockdown kits (SKD), BD Live reported.

With the opening of the additional plant, Toyota can now assemble Ses'fikiles from complete knockdown (CKD) kits. The company aims to produce up to 15,000 units a year.
